Script Commentary

Script is expert ancient Roman cursive leaning distinctly to the right: B has the well-known cursive form; the squeezed V-shaped E is characteristic of the period; the tail of G turns to the right; M has the oldest form and is made of four strokes; the form of N is noteworthy; O is often small and compressed; S is long and the expected curves are barely indicated; U rises above the line or is suprascript; verticals are often looped and hooked. The date is virtually fixed by similarity to the script of a document of 237 (Pap. Oxy. VIII.1114).
